Solar panels and home batteries can reduce electricity bills and make better use of the energy you generate. Behind the panels there's significant electrical work: inverters, isolation, protection, metering and connection to your installation and the grid.
We carry out the electrical side of solar PV and battery storage installations, add batteries to existing solar systems, and test and maintain existing installations. We'll explain the notification, certification and safety requirements before you commit.
When to call us
- You're considering solar panels or a home battery
- You have solar and want to add battery storage
- Your inverter shows a fault or generation has dropped
- You want an EV charger or heating to work with your solar
What's involved
- 1Survey of your installation, consumer unit and supply
- 2Inverter, battery and isolator installation
- 3AC and DC wiring and protection
- 4Generation metering and monitoring set-up
- 5Network operator notification or application (e.g. G98/G99)
- 6Testing and certification
Good to know
Network connection rules
Smaller systems are typically connected under the G98 process with notification to the network operator. Larger systems, or those exceeding certain limits, need prior approval under G99. We'll confirm which applies to you.
Export payments and certification
To receive Smart Export Guarantee payments, systems generally need MCS certification. We'll confirm how certification will be handled for your installation before you go ahead.
Battery safety
Home battery systems should be installed with attention to location, ventilation and fire safety. PAS 63100 gives guidance on battery storage in homes.
How much does solar PV and battery installation cost?
Every job is different, so we price it once we understand what's needed. The main factors are:
- System size and panel count
- Battery capacity and inverter type
- Roof type, access and scaffolding
- Whether the consumer unit needs upgrading
- Network application requirements
We explain charges before we attend and agree the price of any work with you before it starts. Sending photos in advance helps us quote more accurately.
Solar PV & Battery Storage: FAQs
Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?
Usually, yes. Depending on your existing inverter, a battery can be AC-coupled or added with a hybrid inverter. We'll check what's compatible.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels?
Many domestic roof installations are permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and some flats have extra rules. Check with your local planning authority.
