A dedicated EV charge point is faster, safer and more convenient than charging from a three-pin socket. But a 7 kW charger is one of the biggest continuous loads a home will ever have, so the installation needs proper checks before it goes in.
We survey your supply and consumer unit, recommend a suitable smart charger and location, deal with the earthing arrangements electric vehicle charging requires, and install, test and certify the circuit. Where the network operator needs to be notified or asked for approval, we'll explain what's involved.

Good to know
Smart chargers are a legal requirement
Under the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021, charge points sold and installed for private use in Great Britain must have smart functionality, such as off-peak scheduling and demand-side response.
Earthing matters
Many UK homes have a PME (TN-C-S) supply. BS 7671 sets specific requirements for earthing EV charge points on these supplies, which is why a survey comes first.
Grants
Government grant schemes for chargers change over time and currently focus on specific groups such as people living in flats or rented homes. Ask us and we'll tell you what's available when you enquire.
How much does EV charger installation cost?
Every job is different, so we price it once we understand what's needed. The main factors are:
- Charger make and model (or supplying your own)
- Distance from the consumer unit to the charger location
- Whether the consumer unit needs upgrading
- Earthing arrangements required
- Groundworks, ducting or wall drilling
We explain charges before we attend and agree the price of any work with you before it starts. Sending photos in advance helps us quote more accurately.
EV Charger Installation: FAQs
Can I charge my car from a normal socket?
Occasional use with a manufacturer-approved cable is possible, but sockets aren't designed for long, high-current loads every night. A dedicated charge point is safer and much faster.
Do I need to upgrade my fuse board for an EV charger?
Not always. It depends on the space and protection in your existing consumer unit and the load on your supply. The survey will tell you.
Can you install a charger at a business or block of flats?
Yes. Workplace and shared charging needs extra planning around supply capacity, load management and access, which we'll cover during the survey.
